Our Story
In 2017, while volunteering with mobile showers, I witnessed a stark reality: access to clean clothes is a luxury many take for granted. Guests of The Shower of Hope would step out of a warm shower only to return to their dirty clothes, a reminder of how essential this basic need is to human dignity. It was then that the idea for The Laundry Truck was born—creating a mobile laundry service to provide clean clothes and restore dignity to those experiencing homelessness. - Jodie Dolan
Since 2019, Laundry Truck LA has washed over 400,000 lbs of laundry. In October 2023, it expanded with a third truck, now offering free laundry services to underserved kids and families, including an elementary school in Skid Row where 40% of students are unhoused.
This service is critical for over 10,000 homeless children in the area, as clean clothes are often the barrier to attending school. Studies show that access to clean laundry increases school attendance, improving these children’s chances of graduating high school. Beyond attendance, clean clothes support self-confidence and a sense of worth, which are essential for their future success.
