WE ARE ONE OF THE FIRST MOBILE LAUNDRY SERVICES IN LA TO SERVE PEOPLE EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS AND OUR NEIGHBORS IN NEED.

Wash. Dry. Fold. We believe these are the first three steps to impacting the dignity, mental health and hygiene of our local unhoused community. With more than 300,000 lbs of laundry completed since 2019, The Laundry Truck LA aims to improve day to day livelihood, enable employment opportunities and support school attendance.

OUR STORY

“In 2017, as I walked the streets of our city, and spent time volunteering with the mobile showers, I couldn't ignore the stark reality that access to clean clothes was a luxury that many of us take for granted. I witnessed the guests of The Shower of Hope taking a shower, enjoying the simple but transformative experience of a warm shower, only to have to step back into their dirty clothes. It struck me that this basic necessity was out of reach for those experiencing homelessness and facing economic hardship. The dignity and self-esteem that come with clean clothes was not accessible to them. That's when the idea of The Laundry Truck started to take shape. I envisioned a mobile laundry service that could provide clean clothes and restore a sense of dignity to those in need”. Jodie Dolan

Since its starts in 2019, the Laundry truck LA has completing over 330,000 lbs of laundry to date. The Laundry Truck just expanded its reach with its third truck this past October 2023 and a is now providing free laundry to the kids and families in underserved communities with a support to local school districts such as an elementary school in the Skid Row district with 40% of its kids unhoused. This is a very critical service when we know that there are more than 10,000 kids experiencing homelessness within the city & county that will not go to school if they do not have clean clothing. Studies have shown that providing clean laundry helps to increase attendance rates thus giving these kids a higher probability of attending high school. Beyond this we know that clean clothes are needed for a baseline of self confidence and self worth.
